So, the final part of the random Spectrum repair arrived today, the case.
So, to recap, this week's replacements have been the ULA.
My Nebula just arrived, need to install it and a couple of upper RAM IC's and test my spare Spectrum.
I'll also look at getting a new case, but that'll likely be next month as it's been a bit of an expensive month so far. To be fair I got paid nearly 2 weeks ago and I had my black belt camp last weekend, so I can wait a bit longer for a new Speccy case.
Collector of many retro things!
800XL and 65XE both with Ultimate1MB,VBXL/XE & PokeyMax, SIDE3, SDrive Max, 2x 1010 cassette, 2x 1050 one with Happy mod, 3x 2600 Jr, 7800 and Lynx II
Approx 20 STs, including a 520 STM, 520 STFMs, 3x Mega ST, MSTE & 2x 32 Mhz boosted STEs
Plus the rest, totalling around 50 machines including a QL, 3x BBC Model B, Electron, Spectrums, ZX81 etc...
I understand... I really shouldn't have spent so much this month other than a number of "buy it now or it's gone" things turned up and I'm having to prepare for Cyber Legends.
Anyway, the Byte Delight Spectrum tester is dead easy to put together. Took about an hour.

The repaired Spectrum checks out fine.
Talking about Cyber Legends, the data SIM for the 4G router still hadn't turned up after a week so I've requested that SMARTY Mobile send a replacement. Hopefully it will arrive in time to get the VoIP and view data stuff set up.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Yep, totally get you regarding the 'buy it now or it's gone' scenario, that's why I bought the Nebula, though I suppose it's not the sort of thing that sells out quickly.
BTW, mine took an awful big push to install, a bit scary tbh and I doubt it'll ever be removed!!! Was yours the same?

I had the same when I installed a VL82. I thought I was going to snap the board.
I just remembered that I have 3 issue 7 ULAs knocking about if anyone needs one in the future. I really need to de-clutter over the next 12 months and I doubt I'll be repairing (breaking) any Spectrums in the future

Yes, but that was expected. It's always the same when pushing turned pins into sockets.

Well I doubt I'll need another anytime soon, but I will bear that in mind, thanks. My VLA81 was also hard to insert for the same reason.

Yes, it's just this one felt a lot harder than previously experienced, like my VLA81 (Still stiff, but not as bad), and I found the overhang a little worrisome!

@stephen_usher I'm looking for Retro Renew but not finding anything, do you have a link please or did you mean ZX Renew?
Thanks

Anyway, it's a nice loco and precisely fits the location and time of the railway I'm modelling (eventually), i.e. the Southern Midland Mainline in the early 1980s, as the original loco was stationed at Cricklewood depot and spent all its time in the area and helping with the electrification of the line up to Bedford.
I lived right next to Healey Mills marshalling yard in the late 70's, spent much of my youth mucking about near those lines, loved the sound of Deltics rocketing by late at night. Anyhow, those models look fantastic.
