Yeah the later revision boards are a lot more solid working than stuff like the mega machines.

Cosmic Puppet wrote: Thu Jun 23, 2022 3:00 am No, i meant having my white screen (available in EmuTOS) hides my NTSC output crappyness, so switched to TOS 1.04 to show the faults clearer and the colour had disappeared. So in 20 mins of running the computer since the new chip, it's cured! Will check again tomorrow (technically it is tomorrow) when I wake up.
Why NTSC ?

I think you likely have a bad connection somewhere. Maybe manhandling the machine changing the DMA "fixed it" ?
Mines a US Atari that was originally 120v It took 20 mins to fix it. Is it possibly the monitor out? I have been using a NEC monitor via D-SUB. The OSSC is to eventually capture everything on the PC.

My last Atari was PAL and the picture was better, but that could've been also to do with the later revision board.

P.S. In real life (whatever that is) it's completely monochrome. The photo gives a hint of colour for some reason.
That's an artefact from it being a colour LCD display. Perfectly normal.

I just meant it looks perfect in real life. Can never tell how I'm being received.

It's definitely affected how the printer behaves.

I was unable to boot the Atari with the printer plugged in and switched on before.
I had to do things in a particular order, which was annoying as I would forget I'd left the printer on from a previous session.

Now that the C025913-38 has been replaced with the IMP C100110-001 (1987) I don't have to think about whether I've left the printer on or not.

C398739-001A (1990) is probably best suited for an STE.

Everything in my Atari apart from new power supply, fixes and RAM expansion pre-date this chip.
Everything is 1988 or earlier, with the TOS 1.04 upgrade being 1989.

I can't 'prove' anything and it may just be Pigeon Superstition.

All I know for sure is that I don't have the printer issue anymore and the picture is back to normal.

Bits of the screen being darker was doing my head in.

Now everything is perfect.

Someone could copy my identical setup and probably get a different result!

I'm just happy that I have such a highly functioning machine! 8-)

Only caveat is that I'm having to use EmuTOS 1.0.1 as everything functions 100%

In the bleak winter days I will get back to helping test my issues with the latest release, to bring me up-to-date.

All I know as a non-techie is, that things are better than before.
Pigeon superstition or not, I've had a positive outcome with the IMP DMA.

The printer doesn't have anything to do with the DMA, it uses the sound chips io port.

Could anything interfere with that io port?

Printer is the only thing on it.

Right okay.

I don't get it. My system is acting differently, but it shouldn't. Leaves me nowhere explanation wise and that weird colour thing that disappeared after switching a chip, but at least everything is cool now.

Assuming something's been disturbed (apart from me) by 'manhandling' the machine. Any ideas how I could have caused it. Some part of my machine being flakey maybe?

Maybe bad contact on the GLUE ?
