Well, you should at least be able to get the latest news from that monitor.

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

That monitor looks like something they would show on Tomorrows World'; the earlier episodes at that!
I love the look and can see why you went for it.
Welcome to the Reuters badged CRT club...although mine is nowhere near as swish looking as that one!

I fancied one of the Philco TVs that look like the Radiation King TVs in the fallout game and TV show but they are unobtainium for anything less than ridiculous money.mrbombermillzy wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 3:30 pm That monitor looks like something they would show on Tomorrows World'; the earlier episodes at that!![]()

Done a bit of work on the amplifier today.
Fitted the preamp into a new case, with a new 100wpc amp and a Bluetooth receiver. It's all connected up so I could test it all out and instead of having to crank it up to 10 with the old Sinclair Z30 amps, I can now get reasonable bass and sound quality using Bluetooth with it just set to 3.
So next step is to put in the phono and tuner phono plugs and then to get it all tidied up and finished.
Here's what it looks like so far

I got the Reuters monitor out again today after giving it it's own but of prime real estate for it to only go and not work
I've got the case off of it now and will give it a once over. So far there's an old rusty cap on the left hand PCB.
Bit of a better look at it now the PCB is on hinges as well.

Well so far it looks like it may be a PSU problem, 22v in and 4 on the pot that's marked as set 11v.

Replaced a few of the caps in the Reuters monitor, on the two PCBs but still no joy, so it's obvious that something popped between the initial turn on of the Monitor and any subsequent ones. I'll order a couple of the power transistors that are on the high voltage side and see if that helps.
I do need to learn a bit more about the basics off how these CRTs work as I'm not getting a high voltage feed to the CRT at the moment but do get the electron guns firing, so something is obviously holding the HV off. There's not even any of the usual buzzing or crackling to indicate the flyback has gone, so I think it's something before that, hence thinking about the power transistors.
What also doesn't help is that I can't find a schematic anywhere for it, so having to work it out one step at a time.
In other news, I got a Panasonic FS-A1 MSX2 computer the other day and have just modified it to accept a 9VDC power supply. It seems to work just fine but I now need to upgrade its ram from 64K so that I can use it with Dos2 and a few other bits.

It would probably be worth checking the transistors with a multimeter in diode mode, see if any are shorted as that may give you a place to startPhilC wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 3:23 pm Replaced a few of the caps in the Reuters monitor, on the two PCBs but still no joy, so it's obvious that something popped between the initial turn on of the Monitor and any subsequent ones.
