Casio Digital Watch resources?

Post by alexh »

I recently bought a Casio digital watch of the 1980s from eBay. A Marlin DW-200 module 181.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/126996779701

Pure nostalgia buy, this was the watch I owned and wore from 1983 until 1991 (when it was stolen during a party).

I don't collect watches. This is my first (and last purchase). Promise. (I can't start collecting digital watches too)

I think it has turned out to be quite a bargain. I was expecting the crystal (glass) to be delaminating from the pictures on eBay but it turns out to still have the original thin polythene protective cover over it with air bubbles in it which means it's probably never been worn and in amazing condition for 42 yo watch.

It came with the wrong reproduction strap that is slightly too narrow. I tried Google and I find a couple of part numbers (70360004, 70645500, 1082 09521082) but all are coming up as "discontinued" or "out of stock".

What I'm looking for is a forum like this one dedicated to collecting watches, specifically Casio watches. I needs some advice on which part number is correct and where to find them). I've tried https://www.thewatchforum.co.uk/ but they don't specialise in digital watches and no luck so far.

Thanks.

P.S. Turns out to be Number 2 in this officially recognised Casio list of collected watches

 we will see.

This is a rabbit hole I went down some decades back after finding my original Casio TS-100 thermometer watch. Gave it a polish etc and bought a replacement strap.

I can't remember if I found any specific Casio/digital forums during that obsession.

I remember that Marlin logo, I guess someone at school had one. Strap looks very similar to the TS-100. I could measure the width and see if it is wider than the one you have?

I got some (what I think are) nice watches (not valuable) when my grandad died, a digital Seiko with a grill on the front is a favourite.

I also bought a CWC G10 which is a military watch. Features high quality quartz unit that OMEGA use. Mine is also Tritium illuminated. Prices of these watches have risen quite a bit.

Thanks for replying. The only correct strap I've been able to find is in America on eBay and with shipping is more than I paid for the watch.

I normally wear the Casio MDV-106, I read an article that Bill gates wears one. They were only £49 new.

I managed to find a reproduction strap in the end. Just in case anyone else is reading this. £0.75 + £3 postage. My kinda bargain.
