YouTuber Desert Drifter accident

Post by exxos »

I don't normally post stuff like this but it's just so sad how tragic things can be for people.

For those who don't know about Andrew aka desert drifter, he explores the ancient west , mostly canyons looking for forgotten civilsations and "wall art" . He finds snippets of information for some lightweight history which adds more meaning to forgotten times.

I've watched all his videos and he's found lot of stuff which would have remained forgotten if it wasn't for people like him. It became one of my favourite channels and I always look forward to his next adventure every week.

However, he was in a bad car accident about a week ago and now fighting for his life. He's under heavy sedation while the doctors runs scans and fight bleeding on his brain and focused on keeping him stable.

Yesterday's update :
This morning Neuro discussed more regarding the strokes on yesterday’s scans. The strokes have not gotten worse but they have confirmed they are quite large and are located in important areas for speech, language, and movement for the right side of the body. They want to do an MRI to confirm more but are holding off at this time as stabilization of Andrew’s vitals are the main focus. It seems that moving this morning for head CT was a lot of stress on Andrew so at this time Docs are minimizing unnecessary movement/intervention to optimize his rest. This also means holding off on tracheotomy and revisiting this early next week.

Andrew’s blood pressure has been elevated today and he has been maxed on medication to it. Docs moved the ventilator to ~50% so he could begin to breathe on his own, however, today he was starting to fight the ventilator. This was causing stress on his body and increasing his breathing rate. As a result, his blood pressure spiked, SPO2 levels decreased, and ICPs increased. They were beginning to ween off sedation this morning but have now increased his sedation levels and added a paralytic (muscle relaxer). This is the appropriate steps right now as Docs want to focus on stabilization and minimize extraneous stress. This is a good step to better prepare him for additional MRIs or CT scans and additional interventions.
I think it's so sad that yet again a good, and young person has been dealt such a bad hand like this :(

His wife posted an video a few days ago to his channel.. She is very distressed to say the least :(

Holly crap is all I can say...

Looks like he was sat at some traffic lights on a 35mph road and a transit van ran into the back of him and flipped his car right across junction where he hit a wall...

The transit van driver seems to be suspect alcohol and drugs. He must have been going like 100mph to flip the car that hard doing so much damage... Feking idiot.. :cussing: :cussing:

Poor guy :(
This update means that Andrew's MRI results revealed more extensive damage than was initially hoped. The neurosurgeon confirmed that he has severe injuries in both the pons (a critical part of the brainstem that controls vital functions like breathing and motor control) and the cerebellum (which is responsible for balance, coordination, and fine motor skills). Additionally, there were strokes in the left hemisphere of his brain, which could impact movement, speech, and cognitive function depending on the affected areas.

The combination of these injuries suggests a serious and challenging prognosis. Damage to the brainstem, particularly the pons, is especially concerning because it plays a crucial role in autonomic functions (things the body does automatically, like breathing and heart rate). Severe cerebellar injuries could also impact coordination and mobility significantly. The left hemisphere strokes might contribute to further complications with movement, speech, and processing abilities.

Given the severity of these injuries, the neurosurgeon is likely indicating that recovery will be very difficult and uncertain.

Hi friends,

Andrew’s spirit is free, surrounded by light & love 🤍

He went to be with the Lord today, March 4 at 10:50 AM MST. It was peaceful and full of love in the room with Evelyn by his side, his parents and close friends nearby.

It’s a big loss for all of us, and we’re immensely grateful for your steadfast support and prayers ❤️ Throughout all of this, it’s been our heart to stay full of faith, so we wouldn’t look back and wonder “what if…” 🙏🏼 Thank you for walking in that with us.

Before removing Andrew from life support yesterday, they put him on a mobile ventilator and walked a loop around the whole ICU while all the available staff lined the hallway as a way to honor him. Then in the room, friends & family read scripture, prayed, and sang during the process of removing life support and for over an hour afterwards ❤️ It was peaceful and beautiful

Andrew really lived life to the fullest, and his story & impact isn’t over yet. It’s been wonderful to get to know him in new ways as we’ve seen photos and stories shared by so many. We look forward to more of that as we honor a life well lived 🏜️

❤️ Jenna

I didn't know of this channel, but from the footage I saw, he was one of the good guys.

The bad guy of the story was trying so hard to cover his own ass, but wasn't very smart about it.

It is a real shame loosing such a good person to somebody else's drug and alcohol problems.
