16MHz BOOSTER & DUALTOS

Post by exxos »

A continuation of this project... https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/forum/viewt ... 104&t=3825 But this new design more resembles the original V2.x series booster which has the dual TOS ROM built on the board.

This one had to move on to 4 layers, but at least it helps keep the design as compact as possible. This board is more designed for original machines and it includes the necessary bus pullups also. I think this board will help more people out as there are so many different ROM layouts on original machines that it was just too much work to produce a dual TOS ROM board for every single revision of the motherboard. So this new design alleviates the requirement of needing the additional dual TOS board.

It also has the usual 16MHz boost on CPU & ROM. Which can of course be manually disabled if you do not require that feature.

Cool product @exxos , when are you planning to stock them? May work very well with something like a TF536 instead of the 16mhz cpu.
If it ain't broke, test it to Destruction.

No idea, i'll order the PCBs next time I do a order (not planning on one just yet) but then the usual getting around to building and testing etc.. I still need to finish the STE boosters yet.

If it's for the TF536 then the simple 206 decoder board would probably be better... https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/atari/store2/#0172

@exxos the rom side of thing is quite often why people struggle when doing the tf536, for instance in an old STM without the W1 &w2 jumpers.

ah good point. The booster ones are like twice the cost of the simple dualtos boards though, and this board would cost more  I guess I could do a none booster version then people not paying for the 16Mhz stuff if they not going to be using it, just means more variations to stock though

I've got some PCBs for this on order now. I had totally forgot about this project  if all goes well, which it never does, I hope they will be in store in a few weeks.

I may ditch the current booster (without ROM) as they are not selling enough to make them worth bothering with. But as there will be a better board soon, I doubt the ROMless version would sell anyway.

Maybe sell off the old design at a small discount so you at least recover some of your costs?

There is only one left in stock now anyway.. It's the same PCB as the 206 decoder boards, so I allocated most of the boards to that rather than the boosters.

Fair enough, makes perfect sense. Need more time to get back on with the retro hobbies & repairs... just way too busy with work and family stuff recently...sniff.
