IIRC, in order to boot from your Ultrasatan or IDE device, you also have to patch your TOS if its revision is lower than 2.06.

Re: Ultrasatan worth it or not?
Back in the day I really didn't hit the issue with TOS 1.04 with the folder fix incorporated into the ICD Utils and TOS 1.04.
Of course, if you have an oversized BGM partition with a huge number of folders in the root directory you're asking for trouble.
The Folderxxx bug is mostly a storm in a tea cup if you don't do silly things.

Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

That is not true for ACSI HDDs like UltraSatan. Only for IDE devices.HigashiJun wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 11:13 am IIRC, in order to boot from your Ultrasatan or IDE device, you also have to patch your TOS if its revision is lower than 2.06.

I agree. I run The DarkForce! BBS and as everyone knows, BBS software is fairlystephen_usher wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 12:17 pm Back in the day I really didn't hit the issue with TOS 1.04 with the folder fix incorporated into the ICD Utils and TOS 1.04.

file intensive. On the C partition of the 4gig SCSI hard drive I use, I think I have
something like 240 folders and close to 6000 files.
I use TOS v2.06 now but even with TOS v1.4 and HDDriver software, I never had
a folder problem...

TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!! Just about to order number 3 btw it includes an RTC for machines that don't have one. Also the NetUSBEE is amazing for sending files to your Atari and onto your Ultrasatan.

I'm booting from 1.4 (STFM) and 1.62 (STE) without any patches running the PP driver though so I don't know if that makes a difference but everything works.HigashiJun wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 11:13 am IIRC, in order to boot from your Ultrasatan or IDE device, you also have to patch your TOS if its revision is lower than 2.06.

Re: Ultrasatan worth it or not?
I have the UltraSATAN, but recently I've built the ACSI2STM, and it is a huge competitor. Recently (3.x) it got integrated driver, which is injected into the bootsector during boot, so you can use standard FAT16 SD cards, and they will autoboot without installing any driver on them. If you wish, you can install a bootsector on the card, and then it will be used during boot. As mentioned before it also has an RTC, and integrated driver supports it (no need to install any extra software).
