Installation
------------

If you got Kobold as an update, please carry out the installation with the
serial number and the installation key from your original floppy disk!

Please take note of the installation instructions in the manual. If you still
have TOS 1.0 or TOS 1.2, selecting the desired KOBOLD path in the installation
program is a bit more complicated than with newer operating systems. You must
first manually enter the desired drive and a colon in the path line. Then click
with the mouse on the bar above the file list. Now the root directory of the
selected drive is displayed and you can select the desired destination
directory.

Some users reported installation issues on a compressed partition (such as
DataLight). Since we did not figured out why, but the problem does not arise
when installing on an uncompressed partition, we recommend that you do the
installation on a 'standard' partition. In normal Kobold use there are of
course no problems with DataLight.

Lately, problems with installing KOBOLD have occurred more often when the
Fileselector box from the Edison utility was also installed. This also seems to
set a selected path as the current path, but this is not allowed. As a result,
the installation program will no longer find the INSTALL.DAT file because the
current path is no longer the installation disk, but the desired destination
path. Please remove this file selector during installation.

Before you start
----------------

First thing: Study thoroughly the manual and the information in the UPDATE.TXT
file! In particular, you must read important notes in chapter 1.3 of the manual!
It is really important.

70% of all questions and issues submitted to us can be solved by reading the
manual or README.

For each program not covered in the manual, a short manual with the respective
program name and appendix '.ANL' is to be found on the disk, which you should
at least read once before using the respective program.

If you use programs that interact with Kobold 2 or 2.5 and you want to use them
with Kobold 3, please use the conversion program KB2TOKB3.TTP, which you will
find in the folder KOBOLD35 / TOOLS / KB2TOKB3 including a manual, that allows
you to patch these programs for the new Kobold.

Although it is already stated in the manual, we would like to point out again:
First, test your hard disk with the attached program CORRECT before using it
for the first time with KOBOLD. Kobold sometimes reacts in a strange way if
the directory structures are not perfect. CORRECT can detect and repair this
in no time. You should also use CORRECT regularly afterwards. You will be
surprised how even in seemingly flawless filesystems might get corrupt over
time.

New in Kobold
-------------

Version 3.51 and the current tools are an update of version 3.5. This fixes
some minor display issues with new MagiX! Functionality and Year 2000 issues.
