Introduction
------------

BiLog is a cycling diary program for cyclists of all abilities. With it
you can record training and racing information for any day of the year and
produce graphs and reports of the data to monitor your performance. The
program runs on Atari ST computers and is fully GEM-based.

One megabyte of memory and a double-sided disk drive is recommended when
using BiLog. If you record training data for every day of the year and
race one day each week of the year, about four year's worth of data can
can be stored on one double-sided disk.

Getting Around the Windows
--------------------------

In the training, racing, and gear/speed windows, click the left mouse button
in a box or use the up and down arrow keys to move from field to field. The
current field is outlined in red. You can use the left and right arrow keys
to move the cursor inside a field. The [backspace] key erases the character
to the left of the cursor, and the [delete] key erases the character to the
right of the cursor. The [escape] key erases the entire field. Use the
[help] key to display help information.

The remainder of this document briefly describes each menu option available
in the BiLog program.

Process: Set Drive/Folder
--------------------------

BiLog supports floppy disks, ram disks, and hard drives. The drive you
wish to use to store your data is selected with this menu option. Simply
click the left mouse button on the drive you want after the dialog box is
displayed.

If you create a folder before running the program, you can also specify that
folder in the dialog box to further organize the data on your disk. If you
have a folder named A:\BILOG.DAT\, just type the text BILOG.DAT where it
asks you to enter the folder name. (Drive A: must be selected with the
mouse in this example.)

BiLog stores its training data in files named Tyyyymm.DAT, where yyyy is the
year, and mm is the month. For example, the file named T198702.DAT is the
training data for the month of February, 1987. Similarly, the racing data is
stored in files named Ryyyymm.DAT.

Since the BiLog program occupies around 200K of the disk, it's advisable to
keep the program and the data on separate disks.

Process: Run BiLog
-------------------

Choose this option after selecting the drive and folder. A training calendar
(Monday through Sunday weeks) will be displayed for the month and year
contained in your computer's internal clock. The current day is outlined in
red. Select the day you wish to enter training or racing information by
clicking the left mouse button in the appropriate calendar box.

Process: Save Changes
----------------------

BiLog works on one month's of training and racing data at a time. Select
this option to save to disk any of the changes you made to your training
or racing data. When a month or year is changed inside the training or
racing windows, the data is automatically saved.

Process: Delete Entry
----------------------

This option erases the current day's training or racing entry from the screen.
(The data isn't erased from the disk until the Save Changes option is selected,
so if you delete something by mistake, it can be recovered by choosing the Quit
option.)

Process: Quit
--------------

Select this option to exit the current window. If you made changes to any
of the training or racing entries and didn't save them, you will be asked
if you wish to do so before exiting from the window.

Calendar
--------

Select the option you wish to change the current day, month, or year. The
calendar's good from the year 1583 through 9999.

Logs: Training
---------------

All training data is entered on this window. Once Distance and Elapsed Time
have been entered, clicking the left mouse button inside the Average Speed
box will display the ride's average speed. Click the left mouse button in
any of the Road, Weather, or Type boxes to indicate training conditions.
The Wind Speed field is free-format, so that "15 m.p.h." or "Moderate" can
be entered.

Logs: Racing
-------------

All racing data is entered on this window. Once any item of information is
entered and stored, a bicycle symbol will appear on the calendar to remind you
of your scheduled racing days.

Logs: Gear/Speed
-----------------

With this window you can calculate gears or speeds based on gears and cadence.
No more gear charts! You can enter any two items in either the Gear or Speed
column and the missing item will be displayed after clicking the left mouse
button in the Calculate box. The gears are based on a 27" wheel. The
calculated speed is in miles per hour by default; to change the speed to
kilometers per hour, click the left button of the mouse in the Km box. The
Clear box erases the contents of all fields.

Logs: Summary
--------------

This option displays combined training and racing distance ridden for the
current week, month, and year. The week's distance is computed from the
Monday of the current week through the current day, whereas the month's
distance is computed from the first of the month through the current day.
The year's distance is the total distance since January 1 of the current
year.

------------------

By default, all distance graphs display a vertical scale that runs from
1 through 5. In some cases this scale may not be suitable. The dialog
box displayed by this option is used to improve the appearance of graphs.
The upper bound of the normal scale can be changed from 5 to 12 in
increments of 1, and a half-scale upper bound can be changed from 10 to
24 in increments of 2.
