SAMPLES
=======

The samples in the SAMPLES directory are a mixture of 8-bit and
16-bit types. There are also two different sample formats: AVR
and IFF. All of the IFF samples are 8-bit. The AVR samples are
all 16-bit except for the following three:

BTHRU_08.AVR
GAJIT_08.AVR
PHONE_08.AVR

To load any sample, go to the Sample Palette screen. Set the
output options to suit your sample replay hardware. If you are
not sure about this, choose "Monitor" mode as this will send
sound to your TV or monitor speaker. Next, decide whether you
want to load an AVR or an IFF sample by setting the load type.
Then, click on "Load Sample" and select the sample to be loaded
using the standard file selector box.

Note that you can still load 8-bit samples even if you are using
16-bit sample output hardware (such as Replay 16). You can also
load 16-bit samples even if your sample output hardware is not
16-bit. Breakthru will convert the sample in memory to allow it
to be played back on your hardware. For best audio quality, use
16-bit samples with Replay 16.

You can hear any sample by clicking on the sample name and then
"Hear Sample".

For more information on using samples within Breakthru, please
refer to your user guide or video manual.

Remember that Software Technology Ltd. produces a whole range
of 8-bit samples called "The Sample Series".

SONGS
=====

The songs are a mixture of MIDI only, sample only, and MIDI and
sample demos. Use "Load Song" on the file menu to select a song.
Read the song notes box in each case for more information about
the song.

If a song was set up for a different MIDI instrument to your own,
you will need to alter the channel and program numbers to suit
your own particular MIDI equipment.

If a sample song was set up to use different sample output
hardware to yours, you can change the output mode on the Sample
Palette screen. Breakthru will re-load the samples used and
convert them into the correct format for your hardware.
