About the folder: STOTTO V 1.3

This Mixermap was designed to run the Mackie Designs Otto-1604 auto-
-mation package in any version of Cubase for the Atari ST.

It also contains a Direct Control map for the Peavey PC-1600 MIDI
Controller. The Mixermap is preset to operate on MIDI CH.16/Atari output
port. You can easily change it to whatever you want in a few minutes. The
Peavey PC-1600 must be set correctly to remote control this Mixermap.

What follows are instructions how to do this. First, the easy way:

There are two files called: OTTOMIX1 PVY and OTTOMIX2 PVY on this disk.
If you are in possession of the STUDIO module for Cubase, you can use
these two files to load the correct settings into the Peavey PC-1600.

Do this by first adding an ANYDUMP.DEV driver to the Setup called: PC-
1600, with the file extension set to: PVY. I saved these files while the
PC-1600 was set to CH.16/OUT(Utility/Global). Therefore, in order to load
them back into the PC-1600, you must set the PC-1600's Utility/Global
page so that MIDI CH.16 is the input channel...otherwise the sysex dump
will be ignored. They are single Preset files....so you only have to
overwrite whatever presets you don't need in the PC-1600. If you don't
have the STUDIO module...here is a list on how to manually set the Peavey
PC-1600 to control this Mixermap: (the harder way)

Fader # Set to Output Controller # (Controls Otto:)

01 35 (Replace Mode) CH.01 Fader
02 41 (Replace Mode) CH.02 Fader
03 44 (Replace Mode) CH.03 Fader

14 55 (Replace Mode) CH.14 Fader
15 56 (Replace Mode) CH.15 Fader
16 57 (Replace Mode) CH.16 Fader

These controller numbers were determined because the Otto defaults to
using Controller numbers 0-25. You don't want duplicate controllers being
echoed back thru the Mixermaps. However Mackie assures us that the Otto
can be changed to start at any controller number for a contiguous block
of controllers: 3-28...15-40 etc. Now, the Buttons, are a little more
difficult. They require two, small, sysex entries via the STRING TOGGLE
mode. This is because the Otto uses MIDI note-on commands to toggle the
mutes. There is no way to control a Mixermap fader or switch, directly by
MIDI note on/off commands. So I've used more controllers. The first string
is used to turn the mute on and the second is used to turn it off. There
is a small downside to using this method...and that is: when you first
load in the Mixermap and set the PC-1600 to the correct preset, the PC-
1600 always defaults to the first string (unless you set a SCENE that
does otherwise). What this all means is that the first time you press a
mute button, on the PC-1600, the Cubase Mixermap will not appear to work.
Simply press it one more time and it will continue to work correctly all
day long. It is my advice to toggle all of the PC-1600 buttons once,
while in LOCAL mode, before starting to use the Mixermap.
Enough said...here are the PC-1600's Button STRING TOGGLE settings:

Button # String 1 String 2 Controls Mixermap:

01 B0,48,00 B0,48,7F CH.01 mute
02 B0,49,00 B0,49,7F CH.02 mute
03 B0,4A,00 B0,4A,7F CH.03 mute
04 B0,4B,00 B0,4B,7F CH.04 mute
05 B0,4C,00 B0,4C,7F CH.05 mute
06 B0,4D,00 B0,4D,7F CH.06 mute
07 B0,4E,00 B0,4E,7F CH.07 mute
08 B0,4F,00 B0,4F,7F CH.08 mute
09 B0,50,00 B0,50,7F CH.09 mute
10 B0,51,00 B0,51,7F CH.10 mute

13 B0,54,00 B0,54,7F CH.13 mute
14 B0,55,00 B0,55,7F CH.14 mute
15 B0,56,00 B0,56,7F CH.15 mute
16 B0,57,00 B0,57,7F CH.16 mute

Now, as you've probably guessed, these figures only deal with the first
page of the Mixermap and the first PC-1600 preset (16 X 2 objects). Here
are the figures for the second page and second preset. Oh yeah...if you
don't already own the Cubase STUDIO module...go out and buy it! It will
change your life on Cubase for the better...I assure you. Here's the
second chart, faders first:

Fader # Set to Output Controller # (Controls Otto:)

01 58 (Replace Mode) Master Fader(L & R)
02 59 (Replace Mode) Aux 1-L Fader
03 60 (Replace Mode) Aux 1-R Fader
04 61 (Replace Mode) Aux 2-l Fader
05 62 (Replace Mode) Aux 2-R Fader
06 63 (Replace Mode) Aux 3 Fader
07 68 (Replace Mode) Aux 4 Fader
08 70 (Replace Mode) Alt 3/4 Fader
09 71 (Replace Mode) Joystick Fader

Set Faders 10 thru 16 to: NO MESSAGE.

The Joystick is actually a way to crossfade between Otto "Scenes". This
is a wonderful feature. OK here's the Button settings:

Button # String 1 String 2 Controls Mixermap:

01 B0,6A,00 B0,6A,7F MASTER(1 & 2)mute
02 B0,58,00 B0,58,7F Aux 1-L mute
03 B0,59,00 B0,59,7F Aux 1-R mute
04 B0,5A,00 B0,5A,7F Aux 2-L mute
05 B0,66,00 B0,66,7F Aux 2-R mute
06 B0,67,00 B0,67,7F Aux 3 mute
07 B0,68,00 B0,68,7F Aux 4 mute
08 B0,69,00 B0,69,7F Alt 3/4 mute
09 B0,6B,00 B0,6B,7F ALL MUTE(mutes everything)

Set Buttons 10 thru 16 to: NO MESSAGE.

Obviously, you can change the settings of the Mixermap to accommodate
any kind of external MIDI controller. I happen to own the Peavey and it
works pretty well...so I've included it in the Mixermap. In any event,
you can open up the Mixermaps object editor, and look around to see what
we've done...and by we, I mean Bill Black and myself.

                              Enjoy,
                           Frank Heller
