of the program itself and can be traced - you have been warned.

INSTRUCTIONS: Pro24 Gen is as simple as we could make it, but it
solves a lot of problems for people with Steinberg's Pro 24
which can't load a Standard MIDI File correctly.

If you are using a colour monitor with your Atari, you will need
to "boot up" with the Pro24 Gen Disk already in the floppy drive.
This will automatically load a Mono Screen Emulation program
which is in the folder called AUTO. This Mono Emulator will fool
your Atari into thinking it is connected to a Hi-Res Mono Monitor
so that you can use Pro24 Gen without problems. Don't worry, to
disable the Mono Emulator simply switch your Atari off for about
10 seconds and then switch it on WITHOUT A DISK IN THE DRIVE.

If you are already running a Hi-Res Monitor you will not need to
use the emulator, so move on to the next step.

If you double-click on the icon for disk drive A, a window will
appear, showing the contents of the disk in drive A.

If you double click on PRO24GEN.PRG the program will load and
you will see a box where the name of the currently selected file
will appear (it should be blank at the moment) and also two
   buttons labelled "OK" and "QUIT".

First of all, if you click on the file box to select your Pro24
Song, the file selector will appear. Select the song you want
to work on in the usual way, by clicking on it etc.

You are now ready to convert your Standard Midi File into a
Pro24 Song File. When the window at the top of the screen shows
the correct name and location of the Midi File you wish to
convert, click on the "OK" box, or press "ENTER" on your keyboard
   to start the conversion process.

( Note: Those using a colour monitor may not be able to see the
"OK" or "QUIT" buttons unless they are using the Mono Emulator
we supplied with Pro24 Gen, but they can press enter instead of
"OK" and use the small box at the top left to quit.

Pro24Gen will now convert your Standard Midi File into a Pro24
Song File, ready to load into Pro24.

When it has finished, Pro24 Gen will call the File Selector box
again so you can re-name the file it creates, but the default
is to name it the same as the input file. If you re-name it you
must still use the *.SNG extension after the name, so that Pro24
will know what to look for when it is asked to load a song.

If you want to put the new Pro24 Song File you have created on a
different disk, then now is the time to swap disks to the other
one. Please remember that if your original file was in a folder
on another disk, your Atari will still think it is looking inside
that folder. To let it know you have changed disks, click once on
the small box with an "X" in it, at the top left of the file
selector. This will cause the new disk to be read.

Once you are happy that the name and destination of your new SONG
file is correct, click on OK in the File Selector box. Pro24 Gen
will save your new Pro24 Song File on to the disk in drive A.
If you have a file of the same name already on the disk or in
the same folder, an alert box will appear asking you whether to
over-write the old file ( dangerous ! ), save the old file as a
back-up ( much safer! ), or cancel entirely.

Select one of the first two options and your job is complete.
If you select cancel, you must start over again.

When you have finished, use the big box labelled "QUIT", or the
small unmarked box in the top left corner to exit from the
program gracefully. ( The small box is for people who are using
a colour monitor or a TV because they cannot reach the big one).
