Besides the official software, the most stable version of Cubase is 2.1 by MCA. But Cubase Audio Falcon works on my Mega Ste too. Just turn out the audio engine and save this preference to your def file.
Jean's CAF version works in STeem too (without the audio of course).

Great point. I should also mention that I'm in discussions with Jean Pat, the man who cracked Cubase Audio Falcon, as he tries to figure out the bugs in his cracked Studio Module for Cubase. I'll keep you posted on that for sure...

CAF does indeed work fine on the STe but what would make it even better, is if some kind soul modded it so that Replay 16 cartridges could record and playback audio. Even with only four 16-bit tracks or eight 8-bit tracks, I would certainly use it!
