cubase atari, steem & Korg M1 digital on window

Post by fabienm »

Hello,

I am using cubase on steem emulator, linked to Korg M1 digital softawre with Midiyoke program.

It is ok. It runs well. The only problem I want to solve is the following :

I wan to see in the instrument column of Cubase Window arrangement the list of Korg M1 patches.

In so doing, I could select directly within cubase, for each track the name of sound I want M1 digital to play.

Can somebody help me ?

I 've tried to use Satellite loading a M1 bank sound. but I can't read the sound names in cubase arrangement.

thanks for help

To be honest I'm not 100% sure how this is done, though when I get a moment I will try and look it up in the manual (Though there are features that are not mentioned in the manual like pressing the alt key when adding new pitch bend or other controller data in the key edit window).

In and among the midi mixer stuff here there may well be some enhanced Korg M1 maps which may help. These are available towards the bottom of the page here.

Well I've looked through the manual on the inspector and can tell you the following.

On the Atari, the inspector can list an instrument for a specific MIDI channel on a given MIDI interface. So for example if you have a Korg M1 on the in-built MIDI interface using channels 1 to 8, and a Roland D-110 on channel 9 to 16, you can enter the instrument name under the instrument setting for each channel, but you have to do this manually. Once done you can save this as your default setting and it will be available in all your arrangements and songs.

However if you want to list the instruments onboard sounds, there is no easy way to do this on the Atari and it's not possible from within the inspector as this only list's the sound bank and the program number. The only way around this would be to make a MIDI Mixer that listed the voices and then sent the correct bank and program change to the M1. I've seen this done for the Yamaha DJX keyboard years ago, though this was on the PC (But the Mixermap format had not changed since the Atari days so should be possible). Again, this may have been done in part with some of the Mixermaps provided here.

Hi,

Thanks for helping me.

I understand that the mixer map is the way of solving my problem.

However, If I see how to make a programme change controller, I don't see how to define a text " instrument name " for each programme number selected.

Is is really possible to make this ?

Somewhere I still have the DJX mixermaps from the PC/Mac versions of Cubase VST. These could read the Atari files and I don't think the format changed so I'll have a look at how they are done when I get some spare time in a few days. I'm also hoping to put the Cubase Audio manual online, the MIDI side is identical to Cubase 3 and pretty much the same for 2 (Except a few changes to the interface) so may be helpful once I get it done.

Nice work Malc and which version of CAF is your manual for? I only have the audio chapter for v2.03. I had a bash at photographing the 400 page Cubase Handbook last year, but I was not happy with the quality; I might wait until I have a better camera before attempting this again. However I do like having a remote control on my camera, so I can just turn each page and not touch the camera or get up off my chair like some kind of extreme aerobic exercise!

I'm using the iPhone as I can use the hi definition feature thing and choose which is best, plus the aspect ratio is ideal for the Cubase manual.

As far as I know, the manual will be the same as yours, other than bug fixes there was no difference between 2.03 and 2.06

I only have the audio chapter though; the rest of the binder is empty apart from a few additional notes and a mini manual for the FDI. I suppose v2.06 added more hardware compatibility?

I normally use a tripod for my camera, so how do you fare with a handheld iPhone?

Earlier I scanned the FDI user manual titled, "Welcome to the Steinberg Falcon Digital Interface (FDI)!". It's only eight pages and I did it at 300dpi jpg, and the zipped file of this is 18.2MB. Let me know where to upload this.

That's a good question. I know I can set a user ftp area up on my other site, I'll have a look if it is possible here. May come in handy for a few things.

18MB! That would almost fill my Mega STE's hard drive!
