Atari TT - a powerful machine for music
Atari TT - a powerful machine for music
Hi guys.
Lately I bought Atari TT because I wanted to test what are its music capabilities.
Usually, the machine was considered a graphic station, like Atarimania states, but I was always interested in pushing classic computers to their limits and this time I was given this opportunity by Paulo Simoes who programmed the Hex-Tracker 849a.
So this is a test-song I made with standard Atari TT 4Mb. It's entitled "aTTraction", heheh.
Recorded from real hardware, of course:

I suspected the computer is very powerful - and I was right.
Hex gives here 16 channels, using the Atari's 32Mhz Motorola CPU. (Can make more but with a substantial sound quality reduction).
What a powerful machine.

Re: Atari TT - a powerful machine for music
The TT is a fantastic machine, I've added a graphics card to mine so I can get the TT high resolution modes on a standard VGA monitor. Superb machine let down by Atari themselves.

...which is a shame of course. Although I imagine it was quite expansive back in the days?

Re: Atari TT - a powerful machine for music
As I remember they started at around $2500, though that was still half the price of the equivalent Apple Macintosh of the day.
To be honest though, worth every penny

So I bought the TT according to the rule "better late than never".

Re: Atari TT - a powerful machine for music
By the way, for some time already I was wondering whether it is possible to make symphonic music using only Atari TT.
(I have a standard machine. With 4Mb of RAM).
Well, the final effect isn't very satisfactory, however - here is a song with this kind of music, made entirely for Atari TT (recorded from real hardware of course).

Well, could be worse, hahaha.
