How much to pay for Cubase?

Post by atarisince1989 »

I contacted an e-seller, asking for some prices:

Cubase 2 with manual, dongle and disks all boxed - £60

Cubase 3 with 2 x manuals, dongle and disks all boxed - £80

Is it a fair price? Thanks a lot.

Boxed with all manuals, that's not too bad, so long as the V3 is the 'Special edition', or version 3.06 (The last downloadable one from the Steinberg FTP site).

As I recall, unboxed was £60 so the extra £20 for the box and manuals isn't too bad.

You may wel get it for less off ebay, it's waiting for one to show up and hoping it falls below that price at the end of the auction.

Thanks a lot. I didn't think about it. I'll ask.

Reply from e-seller arrived: "it has v3 but i shall include v3.1 which was the last and latest version"

Now I'm a bit unsure, as before I was using a cracked version of v3.06 and it was crashing a lot (maybe because the crack). As you suggested me I downloaded MCA 2.06 and it rocks! Didn't crashed in all afternoon yesterday, and I was using it for at least 4 hours.

Would v3 dongle work with a legitimate v2.06? If so, the manuals and the dongle would worth.

Is anything in v3.1 that will make worth to spend £100, apart from having a legal copy?

I assume the 2.06 version is Cubase audio from this site? The Cubase 3 and Cubase audio dongles look pretty much the same, but the dongle for one will not enable the other to work.

I have the latest versions of Cubase on the Atari, both Version 3 regular and version 2.06 audio on the falcon, and can assure you that both are steady and stable on a properly working system. Whats most likely is that the crack is not as good as it could be and that is causing the stability issue.

Having said that, there is nothing stopping you using Cubase Audio as a MIDI only application, they are the same program at their core.

I'll answer your other thread when I get home from work, I'll also be able to look at my Cubase setup and help a little more with it (Though I'm pretty sure I know what I'm going to put already, just want to be doubly sure).

That's correct

That's what I assumed after trying MCA cracked version and not crashing in the whole afternoon.

Currently I'm not interested in the audio features. I was planning to get the sound from the Yamaha into my Mac, and to record real instruments (actually only electric guitar) into the Mac too, using Garage Band, as I have some experience already doing so, to make the final mix.

:D No rush. Currently I can access this website from work, but as the bad boys has been working, we're getting less and less access, and more and more banned websites. Dear oh dear, I'll have to do some real work

The crack for Cubase 3.0/3.1 is very bad. The most stable one is MCA 2.1 (that's not Cubase Audio 2.1). It's on this site.

Cubase 2.x has a black dongle
Cubase 3.X/ Cubase Score have a red dongle
Cubase Audio has another red dongle.

The versions don't work with other dongles.

BTW the prizes seem reasonable. But with a bit of luck and patience you can go cheaper. I've obtained Cubase 3.X with dongle and manuals together with an Mega STe for € 50,-

I have just bought a Cubase Audio red dongle this week, so I now have the full kosha setup finally; the original software; the red dongle; the 200 page approx audio chapter ringbound manual and box; The Complete Cubase Handbook. Okay the last bit is not strictly original but is probably better than the user manual anyway!

The next step is to swap out my Atari 14MB board for the new low profile 60ns Siemens ones I got in August from Bernd Thomas:

It's all good fun...(when it works of course!)
